Vintage Turkmen Yamout Carpet Wall Hanging/Rug

£55.00

This early to mid 20th century rug was woven by the Yamout (or Yomut) Turkmen tribe. Known for their distinctive geometric patterns, deep cultural heritage, and exceptional craftsmanship, Yamout rugs reflect the nomadic lifestyle of their creators.

A channel has been sewn down one edge for a rod to slide through, so it could be hung up on the wall. It possibly began life as a panel of a large bag or floor cushion.

It could still be used as a rug but its thick soft pile means it might tend to slide around on a hardwood floor so a non-slip backing would be needed. It would also work great as a throw on the back of a sofa.

There’s a little damage to the edge of the channel but it’s otherwise in good condition. It has been gently cleaned.

Measures 112cm x 82cm.
