An early to mid 20th century handmade rug from Hamadan in Iran, formerly a region of Persia. The colours are traditional with a very dark blue/black centre and red border. The red has faded into pink tones with age. Only one end has fringing, this is often found on rugs intended for use as door coverings, the plain strip would be pinned above the opening of a tent or structure to keep out cold drafts and animals.
Light overall wear, some typical colour fading and variation, but nothing significant.
Measures 171cm x 101cm
