These plush chenille throws were commonly used in the Victorian period as table covers. Varnished dark wood furniture was popular at the time and the thick pile of these throws protected the surface of the wood from sunlight and wear. They were also used as bed toppers and furniture throws to add extra warmth and protect more delicate fabrics.

The table cover has some overall colour fading and some faint marks. It has been hand-washed.
