Victorian Aesthetic Movement Chair by New York Designer George Hunzinger c1870s

£90.00

This striking chair is attributed to the 19th century New York based furniture designer, George Jakob Hungzinger (1835-1898).

George was known for designing furniture that was both innovative in construction and significant in design. His designs were daring and modernist for the time.

This bedroom chair is typical of his designs from the 1860s-1870s, its profile looks more like a scientific instrument than the bones of a chair.

The upholstery is structurally very stable, no holes or thinning areas but it does have some colour fading, most notable on the seat. The ebonised finish has typical scuffs and knocks.
