Original Architectural Drawing By William Martin Ashmore, Chesterfield 1859-1943 [01]
Original hand-drawn and coloured architectural drawings for a proposed building in Chesterfield, Derbyshire. The architect is William Martin Ashmore, a highly regarded award winning architect from Chesterfield who was active in the late 19th- early 20th century.
As well as being a very talented architect, the recent release of personal documents belonging to the Ashmore family has revealed he was a close friend of Edward Carpenter, socialist, poet and early gay rights activist.
We have a number of his original architectural drawings available, all of which are designs for buildings in Chesterfield.
This particular drawing depicts several side sections and a roof plan for a reasonably sized building with outbuildings. The gallery porch and balcony suggests it would have been a rather fine but modestly sized building with decorative architectural details.
The drawings are on fine coated linen, it has some translucency for ease of copying. If the drawing was backed and mounted, it would accentuate the details much greater.
Measures 56cm x 38cm
It will be posted folded along the fold lines.
