Original c1950s-1960s oil on board painting. The scene captures a debate during a packed football match on a cold day. The painting is by a working class man named Walter E. Shimbles. He worked in an iron works and other similar industrial roles for much of his life and likely had limited formal art training, but he clearly had a natural talent for colour and composition. A number of Shimbles’ work has come to light in recent years, likely rediscovered by a family member.
The painting has a little flaking on the lettering and it looks to have been altered at some stage.
Frame measures 54cm x 43.5cm
Aperture measures 50cm x 39cm
