Mid Century Mixed Media Art By James Henry Wess (1933-1994) [01]

£25.00
sold out

Original mixed media artwork by artist James Henry Wess. Wess was born in Liverpool in 1933. He attended Liverpool College of Art, his first solo exhibition was at The Manor House, Ilkley.

He was primarily a sculptor but painted continuously throughout his life. Many of his early work is heavily driven by his interest in sculpture and ceramic design.

This mixed media artwork is a combination of oil pastels with a watercolour wash. This razor clam like form features in a number of his pieces.

The mount measures 41cm x 28.5cm. The art work itself measures 38.5cm x 26cm. The aperture measures 32.5cm x 21cm.

Not clearly signed or dated by Wess, but stylistically in keeping with his other work from the 1950s-1970s. It was taken from a portfolio of work where some pieces are dated as early as 1955.
