Large Original Mid-Century Oil Painting ‘The Cellar’, by Yorkshire Artist

£80.00

An original mid-century oil painting capturing an unusual perspective looking out from within a large stone cellar. The artist has written his address on the back, ‘The Laurels’, Barmby Moor (Yorkshire). In 1970 when this painting was completed, The Laurels likely referred to a large old farmhouse on the main street of the village called The Laurels Farmhouse. In the following decade, a housing estate was developed on the surrounding land and was given the name The Laurels.

Though painted by someone living in Yorkshire, the setting looks to be a warmer clime of Europe. The small window of light at the back of the painting shows a building with a terracotta roof and green shutters.

Signed A.G Dartnell and dated 1970. The original price of £25 is on the back, a considerable cost for the time!

Some surface damage to the frame.

Frame measures 72cm x 72cm.
Aperture measures 60cm x 60cm.
