An original gouache painting by Northern artist Christopher L. Robbs. Born into poverty in East Elloe, Lincolnshire, Robbs later moved to Nottingham. His artwork is often focussed on working class life in the North of England.
This particular scene depicts figures in an art gallery with the focus on two older gentlemen in the foreground. These two figures have very exaggerated and distorted features, evocative of ‘Tronie’ paintings made popular in 17th century Dutch and Flemish art.
The painting is signed and dated ‘92. On the back is the title ‘Most Distinguished Painting In Show’.
