Original pen and wash painting by Iris Hardcastle (1919-2013). Though using only one colour, Hardcastle has skilfully created incredible shadow and depth by delicately watering the paint down in stages.
Not a great deal of information is available about Hardcastle, but we do know she was born in Shipley, West Yorkshire. The daughter of a textile factory worker, she exhibited in Bradford and other Yorkshire galleries, predominantly painting in the late 1930s-1950s.
The artwork is in a simple black contemporary frame.
Frame measures 51cm x 40cm.
Aperture measures 36cm x 25.5cm.
