Characterful early 19th century chest of drawers with three drawers and bracket feet. They are made from pine and still retain their original stained finish. The drawers are ‘country-made’, meaning they’re solid and durable but without fine detail and finesse. The dark wood stain would have been to give them the appearance of a more expensive and fashionable wood like mahogany.
On one side is a fixed rail, it might have been added after the drawers were originally made, but it looks to be of a similar age with the level of patina and the brackets and screws used. The top drawer is divided but the other two drawers are not.
The drawers have not been restored and so have their original wear and patina. One drawer handle has lost its collar, but is still useable.
