His style and technique was always evolving- 1960s abstraction giving way to figuration and narrative. Vivid surrealism and abstract portraits in the 1980s and 1990s, with occasional returns to tranquil landscapes. From 1961 Langton had nearly 70 shows and carried out a number of commissions in Europe. His work was acquired by several public collections. The University of York made Langton an artist fellow in 1978, awarding him an honorary doctorate in 1995.
