Arts & Crafts Mary Watts (1849-1938) For Compton Pottery Pendant Necklace

£120.00
sold out

Following the lead of Victorian social reformers such as William Morris and John Ruskin, Mary Watts established the Compton Potters' Arts Guild in 1898 to promote traditional crafts among the local community. Products were sold through fashionable retailers such as Liberty and are still familiar and popular today.

These small, press-moulded designs were originally sold as relatively inexpensive souvenirs of a visit to the Watts Gallery but have become collectible pieces of art in their own right. They are versions of George Frederic Watts’s paintings, and were carefully crafted and hand-painted keepsakes. Designs include star signs, scarab beetles, spiritual symbols and also saints, such as this example.

At some point after purchasing the pendant, someone has had it thoughtfully put onto a dark blue beaded necklace. Please note the pendant is not removable from the necklace without cutting the thread of the beads.

The necklace is long enough to slip over the head. Full length of beads 25 inches. No damage, just light wear.
