Antique Georgian Naive Country Village, Horses Pulling A Logging Cart, Original Painted Pine Frame

£85.00

Early 19th century oil on canvas of a quaint village scene. In the centre of the scene is a man beside some heavy horses pulling a wagon of logs. If you look closely, he’s wearing a linen smock and hat over his clothes. This was a common practice for the period as it protected a persons clothing whilst they were working. Linen is hard wearing and easier to wash by hand than other fabrics, this was of course important in the 19th century, especially for working classes.

The frame is pine with its original painted finish, it would have originally been more of an obvious pale yellow colour but has faded to an attractive soft buttercream shade.
The varnish over the painting has age related wear including darkening, crazing and bubbles- possibly increased from where it’s been close to a fireplace or wall light/lamp.

No visible signature. Some words/names pencilled on the back, not all intelligible, but one looks to be ‘Kitty’.
The frame measures 66cm x 48.5cm
Aperture measures 52.5cm x 34.5cm
