c1900 traditional heavy wood framed sofa with a feather filled seat cushion. From a period country house, it’s been well used, altered and patched up over the years but its high quality manufacture has insured its great longevity. It’s got a solid heavy frame with a sprung base and traditional horse hair padding. The feather seat cushion is a more contemporary addition and has a fire retardant label.
The green upholstery fabric was likely added around the 1930s-1940s. The seat cushion cover has been made using Sanderson ‘Chelsea’ fabric and was likely a later addition in the 1960s.
There are some traces of cat scratches on the corners/front edges, most of which have been covered with discreet old patch repairs. There are a few other small and neat repairs to the fabric, including a leaf cut out to disguise something. The upholstery fabric is generally good for its age but there is some water marks, light fading etc.
