c.1900 carved hardwood plaque of a gentleman in a wide brimmed hat. It’s possibly based on a bust of the Flemish artist and diplomat, Peter Paul Rubens (1577-1640).
The face is hard-carved to a skilled standard and the background has “pokerwork” detailing, popular in the Arts & Crafts period.
The original hanging loop is still in place with a piece of old string attached, though this is likely no longer stable enough to hold the weight of the plaque.
Measures 35cm x 32cm.
