Antique c.1900 Worn Malayer Large Runner Rug
A beautiful late 19th-early 20th century carpet hand-woven in Northwest Persia. The delicate repeated floral pattern is characteristic of Malayer rugs but the size of the rug suggests it might have been a custom design, possibly for the Western market.
The natural dye used in the field of the rug has faded to an attractive raspberry pink shade, slightly more so at one end than the other. There’s some balding areas to the pile in the middle area but no holes (see photos). There’s also some wear to the edges. The rug has been lightly cleaned.
Length 310cm.
Width 120cm, but the width varies slightly.
