An antique c1900 handmade leather doll made by Indigenous People of Canada.
The writing on the back of the doll says Niagara Falls, Canada. It was possibly made for the 1901 Pan-American Exposition in nearby Buffalo, NY, an exhibition which included representatives from various Indigenous tribes, serving as a display of culture, and crafts.
Up to around 1910, Native American artisans, particularly from local tribes, were known to sell beadwork and crafts at Niagara Falls itself, including at the winter ice bridge, this was separate from the formal 1901 exposition.
The doll is has some wear and a little damage to the back, but this is expected for its age.
