Turn of the century Anglo Chinese chest box with a highly decorative exterior. The Iid has a hand-painted bouquet of traditional English style flowers with a touch of oriental stylisation. The scalloped sides of the chest are wrapped with textured paper and painted to give the appearance of leather book spines. The glossy black lacquered finish on the interior and the elegant metal fittings are quintessentially Chinese.
