Original c.1920 wool and silk camel trapping with decorative tassels and pom-poms. Camel trappings were traditionally used in Turkoman wedding ceremonies, when the bride would ride a richly adorned camel to her new home. The ornaments worn by the camel were woven by the bride, in order to demonstrate her sewing skills. These trappings were commonly woven in pile, similar to a carpet but on a smaller scale and in finer detail, such as this example.
This trapping is in good condition for its age with no significant damage to the piled panel. The tassels and pom-poms have wear but are not fragile and still have a great aesthetic.
The panel section alone measures 55cm x 30cm. Tassel length approx 40cm.
