A very elegant 19th century ‘Vide Poche’ table with a deep tray top and narrow under-shelf.
The French term ‘Vide Poche’ translates in English to “empty pocket”. These stylish but practical side tables were designed to be used as a place to temporarily house every day objects that you might have on your person, such as keys, coins and gloves etc.
The tray top has a veneer, there is some wear to the edges and corners (see photos). The legs are not veneered. They have some surface scratches and some old woodworm pin sized holes, most notable on one leg and on the inside.
