Vintage Early 20th Century Folk Art Tasmanian Seashell Table Mirror

£33.00

c1930s handmade vanity mirror decorated with seashells, including rare iridescent Tasmanian seashells around the base.

The base is a mix of pine and composite pine. The shells are all firmly stuck in place, and coated with a glue varnish to enhance their natural colours and patterns. Some of the shells have traces of paint, many of the shells were likely once brightly painted but it has worn away over the years.

No shells look to have been lost entirely, only a couple are damaged. The mirror plate does not sit perfectly central in the halo of shells, a slight misjudgment when it was being made! Not too noticeable.
