Rare Antique W. H. Goss Ceramic Lidded Dish Aesthetic Movement Insect Fly Design

£35.00

A scarce design produced by W.H. Goss during the Aesthetic Movement era towards the end of the 19th century. The shape is square and fairly shallow, so was possibly originally intended more for something like smoked fish or pâté, but would work also fine for butter. The transfer design with hand-painted detailing features red clover and large blue-winged flies. The lid is topped with an insect, possibly a wasp, sat upon a flower.

There are some chips to the inside of the lid lip, but no chips to the visible exterior. In good condition for its age.

Base measures 15.5cm x 15.5cm. Lid measures 12.5cm x 12.5cm. Depth of dish 5cm.
