A single lithograph from the early Victorian folio book- Choice Flowers: A Collection of Drawings of Favourite Flowers, from the Garden and Conservatory; drawn, lithographed, and coloured from nature by A.E. May. With descriptive letter-press by W. May. London: Ackermann and Co., 1849.
The original folio contained 31 hand-coloured lithograph plates, of which this is one. The folio is very scarce, with only 75 listed subscribers listed. The author William May ran the Hope Nurseries at Bedale, Yorkshire. His sister ‘Miss May’ was responsible for the lithograph plates, which depict flowers both singly and in groups.
The quality of the lithograph is instantly evident with the detail and incredibly vibrant hand-coloured detail.
The paper has some brown spots and marks, mostly on the outer edges and corners. There are also two small tears at the top of the paper, they won’t be noticeable once it’s framed.
Measures 35.8cm x 26.4cm.
