18th Century Georgian Mahogany Revolving ‘Birdcage’ Table
A solid c.1780 mahogany tripod table with a ‘birdcage’ like mechanism which allows the table top to revolve. These birdcage tables were originally used for serving tea, cakes and sandwiches, the rotating top making it easy to serve guests, though the novelty factor was undeniably also a big appeal at the time.
The table has a clip and hinge which allows the table top to be tipped vertically, meaning the table could be efficiently stored away or placed by a wall without taking up space.
The table is in good condition with only minor wear, some surfaces scratches and small patches of colour variation. The brass clip under the table looks to possibly be a later replacement.
Height 70cm
Diameter 76cm
